numbers and days
Today it’s 100 days until June 1st. Yeah, yeah, school’s not over then, but I might be moving on that day. Even if I’m not, June is the big month.
Caught up a little on schoolwork yesterday. It’s a slightly shorter week because of President’s Day, and it felt like a looooong break indeed. So it’s nice, but things are a little more compacted in terms of getting the schoolwork done.

taking care of business
The 4 week countdown to two important things — beginning the last quater of school, and starting my IMA routine again. I just registered for classes yesterday and am taking slightly fewer credits than normal. I also have a 2 hour break between classes so I hope to revert back to the workout schedule I had a couple quarters ago, when I’d work out and treat myself to the sauna before showering & going to the afternoon class.
Just did a huge cleaning of the livin room, and it was an utter mess before. My room’s still in horrible shape too, but I might not get to that till the evening.

the future is bright…
Up until now I had tenatively assumed my spring plan would be like this: stop my current job before the end of the quarter to devote all my time to school, start looking for a design job, graduate, hopefully get interviews, and start working. And throw a short vacation into the mix.
Today I’ve revised the plan. Happily. But it’s also a lot less practical and probably too idealistic. On the other hand, never say never, right? So now I’m thinking:
Devote time to learning more Flash/web things (technically) and create more pieces for example work. Work fewer hours during the end of spring quarter (but don’t quit). Graduate (yay!) and continue working at my current job — but maybe 25 or 30 hours, not 40 like I did last summer. With my extra hours, become a freelance web designer. And if I’m lucky (because they always say luck has so much to do with it) and things get off the ground, then transition to having my own business, and eventually leaving the current job.
This thinking came about because my boss came downstairs to ask me today what my summer plans were and said that they would be happy if I stayed working there after the spring.
We’ll see. I can be hopeful, can’t i?

1.5 quarters left.
I’m behind on my reading. Well, leisure reading. The psych book is interesting and all, but textbooks don’t count in the grander scheme of things. Yesterday I bought some brussel sprouts that I’m going to steam tonight with a dish of potatoes au gratin, mmm! Also I paused in the middle of my This American Life podcast so I’m excited to get to work and finish it… ah, the love.

here comes the sun
So, spring is peeking in and I’m exciiiited for it. Starting our fifth week of the quarter tomorrow, so that means that on Friday we’ll be half done, yippee! Well, I finished reading Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, and I’m mid-way through Glamorama, which I want to finish before taking on something else… although I’ve also started How to be a graphic designer, without losing your soul.

short cuts
for the first time ever I got my hair cut at a salon. I’ve always done it myself. And it was worth it–and not just the haircut, but the experience. I went to an Aveda salon, so it was really calming and spa-like (duh, because there’s a spa there too). Plus I got a free hand, shoulder, and head massage. Mmm.

small steps in writing
right on time, two days later, here I am again. Not much new. There’s a package waiting at the post office for me — and it’s one of two books that I ordered via amazon marketplace ages ago. Aloft or The Average American. I’ve half-promised myself that I won’t buy any more books until after June 1st because I’m just making it harder on myself when it comes to moving day.
I finished and submitted the Fitzgerald contest short story. I’m afraid to read it over again and find blaring mistakes.

Blogbloging
Stayed in most of today and currently eating leftover pizza from Wallingford Pizza House, mm! Tried to do homework today but spent an equal amount of time looking at shopping/design blogs. I might start one. I’ll link from here if I do.

beginning of the weekend
I have a psych test in two hours. My so-called power breakfast consists of GrapeNuts… and an identical-sized bowl of real grapes. I’m not trying to be a smarty pants. I need to go buy more mango-pomegranate juice.
It’s supposed to rain all day, and it hasn’t been like this at all since I bought J. Crew rainboots from the outlet mall. And yet I don’t feel like wearing them because the rows in the psych classroom are tight and I’ll have to clomp over everyone to get to my seat.
Listening to the most recently purchased fiona apple cd. It’s COLD in my room.

i’m back, but…
with a caveat. I’m not going to do the different-topic-every-day thing. Nope; now it’s the traditional this-is-what-I-did-today blog and this-is-what-i-want-to-do. Okay, ew, enough hypens.
Today I went to class and work.
Two CDs and a card from relatives were waiting for me in the mailbox. Music was PJ Harvey (Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea) and Fiona Apple (Extraordinary Machine). Do I sound a little behind?
Current personal projects:
1. Finishing the entry for McSweeney’s Fitzgerald short story contest.
2. Listening to / rating over 2,000 songs in iTunes because I re-imported all lately.
3. Saving money, because in 4.5 months I’ll really need it.
4. Trying to learn as much as possible, within reason, about interactive & web design. I’ve decided it’s the one.
